Rosmah gets passport to visit daughter in Singapore

PUTRAJAYA: Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor will be heading to Singapore tomorrow to be with her daughter Nooryana Najwa Najib who is expected to give birth at the end of this month. 

This comes after a three-panel member Court of Appeal led by Datuk Hadhariah Syed Ismail allowed her application to temporarily obtain her international passport today. 

The wife of former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak is now on trial for money laundering charges and she is appealing her 10-year jail sentence for accepting bribes in relation to a hybrid energy project in 369 schools in Sarawak. 

Earlier, Rosmah's counsel Datuk Jagjit Singh said his client was seeking for the immediate release of her passport to enable her to travel to the island republic from tomorrow to Aug 23; Aug 26 to Sept 6; and Sept 9 to Oct 31. 

"Nooryana is expected to give birth soon and the prosecution also does not object to the application," he said.  

Deputy Public Prosecutor Poh Yih Tinn who appeared for the prosecution affirmed.  

Rosmah, in her application said Nooryana who is married to Kazakhstan national Danial Kessikbayev, and now in her final trimester for her third baby, is expected to give birth on Aug 28. 

Rosmah said she would return to Malaysia between those dates to attend her on-going corruption trial. 

On Sept 1, 2022, the High Court sentenced Rosmah to 10 years in jail and a fine of RM970 million after she was found guilty of accepting bribes in relation to a hybrid energy project in 369 schools in Sarawak. 

Rosmah has filed an appeal against her conviction and sentence. Her appeal is pending in the Court of Appeal. 

She has been released on RM2 million bail pending her appeal. 

Rosmah is also facing 12 charges of money laundering involving RM7,097,750 and five charges of failing to declare her income to the IRB.
