KANGAR: A special officer to the Kangar member of parliament has filed a suit against his former employer Zakri Hassan at the Labour Court here for one and a half-months worth of unpaid salary totalling RM4,569.23.
Muhamad Rauf Abdul Aziz, 39, also filed a claim against the Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia MP over his alleged unlawful dismissal without prior notice in May.
The former Kangar Bersatu division committee member has filed three claims to demand his unpaid November salary worth RM830.77, the balance for his April salary worth RM1,800 and a four-week salary notice amounting to RM1,938.46.
The case was heard before presiding officer Fadila Diana Zulkafli at Kangar Labour Court.
The plaintiff and defendant were not represented by a lawyer in the proceeding which lasted for over an hour.
Perlis Labour Department director Iskandar Jassa confirmed that the plaintiff has filed the claims.
"We can confirm the claims were filed on September 6 under Section 69 of the Labour Act 1955 and it has been mentioned at the Labour Court.
"The hearing process is taking place in proper manner today and there will probably be a written argument by the defendant before a decision is made," he said.
Iskandar said the presiding officer would be making a decision within 14 days after the hearing process.
Meanwhile, Rauf said he was appointed as the special officer to the Kangar MP on November 19, 2022 with a monthly salary of RM1,800.
"I was fired on April 19 this year without a notice. I subsequently filed claims at the Labour Court on September 6 to claim my unpaid salary," he said.
In the 15th General Election (GE15) held in November 2022, Zakri defeated Pakatan Harapan incumbent Noor Amin Ahmad and Perlis Umno liaison committee deputy chairman Datuk Dr Fathul Bari Mat Jahya and two other candidates Nur Sulaiman Zolkapli from Pejuang and Rohimi Shapiee from Warisan, with a 9,192-vote majority.
