Cops arrested for extortion, rape of Uzbek student

KUALA LUMPUR: Two policemen have been arrested for extortion and sexual assault involving two private college students.

Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan in a statement confirmed receiving two police reports involving a Malaysian male and a female foreign national.

He said the incident occurred on Jan 9 at 10pm when the complainant and her male friend were at Bukit Ampang View.

"They were apprehended by two male suspects in full uniform, who took them to a secluded location.

"During the incident, one of the suspects sexually assaulted the female complainant, while the male complainant was taken to a bank to settle payments demanded by the suspects for traffic offences."

In a police report sighted by the New Straits Times, it is understood that the two suspects were policemen.

The female victim was allegedly raped by one of the suspects.

Hussein said later on Jan 10, a team of officers and policemen from the Ampang district police headquarters arrested both suspects and remanded them for seven days.

"For both cases, two investigation papers have been opened, one under Section 376 of the Penal Code and the other under Sections 395/397 of the Penal Code.

"If found guilty under Section 376, the suspects could face imprisonment for up to 20 years and caning.

"For offences under Sections 395/397, the maximum penalty is also 20 years imprisonment, with the possibility of a fine or caning," he said.

He added that the investigation is currently ongoing and called on the public to come forward with any information about the incident.

"They can visit the nearby police station or contact the Ampang Jaya district police headquarters at 03-42897222 to assist in the investigation.
