KUALA LUMPUR: Israeli national Shalom Avitan, 38, who was detained with six pistols and 200 rounds of ammunition at a hotel here on March 27, is expected to be charged in court this Friday.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain confirmed the matter and also stated that charges would be made under Section 7 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971.
"The suspect may be charged as early as Friday," he said here today.
Today, a married couple accused of supplying firearms to an Israeli citizen were charged in the Klang Sessions Court earlier today in connection with possession of a 9mm CZ 75 pistol.
Sharifah Faraha Syed Husin, 41, was charged under Section 8 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act (FIPAA) for allegedly possessing the pistol.
Meanwhile, her husband, Abdul Azim Mohd Yasin, 43, was charged under Section 9 of the same act for conspiring with Faraha when he allegedly knew about the pistol in her possession.
According to court documents, the couple allegedly committed the offense at around 8pm on March 29 at a premises in Kampung Bukit Belimbing in Kuala Selangor.
Both pleaded not guilty and requested to be tried, according to a government officer handling the case today.
Earlier, it was reported that the 36-year-old Israeli man was detected entering the country through Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) on March 12 using a French passport.
The six firearms found in the suspect's hotel room were identified as Glock 19 Marine, Glock 17 Gen 4, Smith and Wesson, Sig Sauer, and Stoeger, along with 200 rounds of ammunition placed in his bag.
As a result, the police launched an operation and successfully arrested four individuals, including two women in Skudai and Gelang Patah, Johor, and a married couple in Kuala Selangor, as well as a 38-year-old local man in Cameron Highlands, Pahang, who was also arrested for allegedly being the driver of the Israeli man.
