KUALA LUMPUR: The man who fired gun shots that injured a personal bodyguard at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1 in Sepang near here, is believed to have fled to the northern part of the country.
Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said investigation showed that the suspect was actually aiming to fire shots at his wife who was present at the scene.
Hussein, in a statement today, said the suspect's identity has been identified and the police are tracking him down.
"Investigation showed that the suspect is believed to have fled to the northern states," the statement said.
He added that during the incident, the suspect's wife was waiting for the return of Umrah pilgrims at the airport's arrival hall.
"The suspect fired two shots, hitting a man, who is also a personal bodyguard, resulting in the victim sustaining injuries to the abdomen," he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder and the Firearms Act.
He said the incident was of a personal nature and not related to any terrorist activity.
It was reported that a man was seriously injured after being shot at the arrival hall of KLIA at 1:30 am today.
Further investigation revealed that the man intended to shoot his wife, who was waiting for the return of Umrah pilgrims.
