PUTRAJAYA: Security measures at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1 will be reviewed following a shooting incident at the airport early this morning.
Federal Police Criminal Investigation Department director Commissioner Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain said his presence at the airport today was to discuss the security measures.
"Bukit Aman is viewing this incident seriously as it occurred at the country's entry point.
"This was not the first time such an incident happened, therefore the existing security measures will be reviewed thoroughly.
"We will sit down and review the security arrangement," he told a press conference held at the airport earlier today.
Shuhaily was asked about the need for additional security measures at the airport, following the shooting incident.
During the 1.20am incident, a bodyguard was seriously injured after being shot at Terminal 1.
Asked if the incident would cause fear among travellers, he said the incident was not a random attack.
"It is a clear-cut incident… not a random attack, with a specific target and a personal vendetta.
"Other than that, travellers should not be worried about safety at the airport," he said.
Earlier, Shuhaily confirmed the suspect as Hafizul Harawi, 38.
The man has also been identified as the husband and business partner of the intended victim.
The suspect had three prior records; two records for intimidation (Section 506 of the Penal Code) and one for theft and impersonating a civil servant (Section 380/Section 170 of the Penal Code).
In the 1.20am incident, Shuhaily said the suspect initially threw firecrackers (mercun), injuring two members of the public.
"He then approached the victim, who is his wife, and fired two shots at close range.
"One of the shots hit his wife's bodyguard before he fled the scene to the parking area at Level 2 of Block C, where he parked his car," he said.
