Man who threatened to kill wife for interrupting his sleep fined RM4,000

BATU PAHAT: A factory supervisor was fined RM4,000, in default two months' jail, by the magistrate's court here today after he pleaded guilty to threatening to slash and kill his wife last Wednesday.

Mohamad Hairul Azizi Othman, 30, pleaded guilty to the offense after the charges were read to him by the court interpreter before Magistrate Suhaila Shafi'uddin.

He was charged under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation, which carries the maximum seven years' jail or a fine, or both upon conviction.

According to the charge sheet, Mohamad Hairul was accused of attempting to criminally intimidate his wife with the words 'I want to slash, I want to kill you' at their home in Parit Sumarto, Parit Raja, here at 11:30 PM on June 5.

Based on the facts of the case, the incident occurred when the accused, his 30-year-old wife, and their children were at home.

An argument broke out between the accused and his wife when he became unhappy with her disturbing his sleep and preventing him from leaving the house.

The argument escalated, provoking the accused, who then lost his temper and uttered threats against his wife.

Fearing for her safety, the woman lodged a report at the Parit Raja police station, which resulted in the arrest of the accused.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Farah Wahidah Mohd Sharip prosecuted, while the accused was represented by counsel Zulyatie Awang.

Earlier, the prosecution urged the court to impose a deterrent sentence, considering the threatening words that could cause fear to the victim.
