PETALING JAYA: The court complex here has become the epicentre of intense media attention as the parents of Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matiin are set to face charges today.
The couple, who have been in remand since June 1 to assist in the investigation of their son's murder, will have their remand period concluded this morning.
Over 50 media personnel gathered outside the court as early as 7.30am, eagerly awaiting developments. Access to the court has been restricted, preventing the media from entering.
Family members of Zayn Rayyan are also present. The parents were arrested on May 31 at around 11am at their family home in Puncak Alam by the Selangor Criminal Investigation Department.
Initially, they were represented by lawyer Mahmud Abdul Jumaat, who later withdrew a few days after the remand application proceedings.
On June 5, Fahmi Abd Moin was appointed by the family to represent the couple , though Mahmud continues to represent only the boy's mother.
The case dates back to Dec 6, 2023, when Zayn Rayyan was found dead in a stream near his apartment at around 10am.
His body, discovered about 200 metres from his home, bore injuries to his neck and body, confirming he had been killed.
The discovery was made by the public who had joined search operations following reports of his disappearance.
This tragic case has gripped public attention, and today's proceedings mark a significant moment in the ongoing investigation.
