AMPANG: A man who wore scrubs and went into Ampang Hospital's operating theatre to take anaesthetics last week was today fined RM3,500, in default five months in jail, for trespassing.

Defence lawyer Ungku Ikram Athari said in mitigation that his 33-year-old client, who was diagnosed with multiple personality disorder and schizophrenia by Kuala Lumpur Hospital in 2019, had wanted to take the medication for himself.

"He did it because he wanted to treat his depression, anxiety and multiple personality disorder," Ungku Ikram told magistrate Normaizan Rahim.

"But whatever he had taken has been returned to the relevant parties and he lost his job because of the incident," Ungku Ikram said.

The man was charged in the magistrate's court today with trespassing on the operating theatre on July 9.

He pleaded guilty after he said he understood the charge.

Ungku Ikram also applied to the court to impose a good behaviour bond or a minimum fine on his client.

"He was remanded for four days and has learnt his lesson. He promised his mother and sister, who are present in court today, not to repeat the same mistake," he said.

However, deputy public prosecutor Peh Fong Xi objected to the application and asked the court to mete out an appropriate sentence.

"This is considering that the accused's action was organised because he had worn scrubs to trespass on government premises.

"The court must take consideration public interest and (a sentence) to serve as a lesson to the accused," he said.
