Police inspector among two individuals summoned to record statements in cyberbullying case

KUALA LUMPUR: Two suspects, one of whom is a police inspector suspended from duty, have been summoned by the police to provide statements regarding the cyberbullying case involving a social media influencer.

Sentul district police chief Assistant Commissioner Ahmad Sukarno Mohd Zahari said these individuals have to appear to record their statements.

"We are still waiting for two more suspects, including an inspector to give their statements," he said when contacted today.

Ahmad Sukarno said the investigation would be conducted under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation, Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, and Section 14 of the Minor Offenses Act 1955.

He also said a suspect in the case had not posted any bail as of Friday, despite being granted a bail of RM36,000 by the Sessions Court on July 16.

"He will remain at the Sungai Buloh prison under remand until the next court date unless the family posts bail before that," he said.

The influencer, A. Rajeswary, also known as Esha, was found dead at her apartment in Setapak on July 5.

Her mother lodged a police report on July 12 against two men and a woman in connection with the case.

On July 16, two suspects, Shalini Periasamy, 35, and B. Sathiskumar, 43, were charged at the Kuala Lumpur Magistrate and Sessions Court for cyberbullying Esha on June 30.

It was reported that Shalini had admitted to committing the offence under Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act which carried a maximum fine of RM100 only.
