Daylight heist: RM200,000 snatched at traffic light in Shah Alam

SHAH ALAM: A man was robbed of RM200,000 in cash by an armed group shortly after withdrawing it from a bank.

The incident occurred on Monday afternoon at the traffic light intersection near Sekolah Kebangsaan Tamil Ladang Emerald, Section 33.

Its police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim said that the robbery had gone viral on social media.

A one-minute dashcam video from a road user's car, shared on Facebook, shows the Perodua Kembara driver being attacked by a group of men.

"According to the video, a motorcycle carrying two helmeted suspects stopped to the left of the victim's car, followed by a Perodua Alza blocking the vehicle.

"The pillion rider approached the driver's side, broke the window with an axe, and removed the car keys to prevent the victim from escaping.

"Another suspect from the Perodua Alza then opened the front passenger door and stole a bag containing the cash," he said in a statement.

Mohd Iqbal said the victim, a 54-year-old local man, later lodged a police report.

"According to the victim, at 1.27pm, while he was alone in his car at the traffic light intersection, he was robbed and suffered a loss of company cash amounting to RM200,000 after withdrawing it from a nearby bank.

"Investigations found that the cash withdrawal was for business purposes. However, the victim, who is a scrap dealer and the company's director, did not suffer any injuries," he said.

Investigations revealed that the registration number of the Perodua Alza used by the suspects was fake and actually belonged to a Toyota Vios.

The police are actively pursuing the suspects.

The public is advised against carrying large amounts of cash to avoid such incidents.

The case is being investigated under Sections 395 and 397 of the Penal Code for gang robbery and armed robbery with the intent to cause death or grievous harm.
