Teacher arrested for allegedly molesting Year 6 students in 'haunted house' [WATCH]

MELAKA: A male primary school teacher has been remanded for six days on suspicion of molesting two Year 6 female students in a haunted house opened in conjunction with the school carnival day yesterday.

Acting Melaka police chief, Datuk Md Nazri Zawawi, said the remand order was issued by magistrate Nor Syaliati Mohd Sobri at the Ayer Keroh magistrate's court, effective today until Jan 14.

Nazri said the 43-year-old suspect was arrested in front of a house in Paya Rumput at 10.25pm last night after a report was made by the headmistress of the school at the Tanjung Minyak police station at 12.48pm yesterday.

"The 53-year-old complainant said that while he was in the school office, he was approached by two Year 6 female students who were scared and crying.

"The two students claimed that the suspect invited them into the haunted house, which was opened in the school compound in conjunction with the school carnival day this Saturday.

"They followed because they were excited to try it without thinking anything, but while inside the haunted house at around 10am, the suspect allegedly groped their private parts and breasts.

"Shocked by the incident, the complainant asked several female teachers to calm the two victims who were in fear," he said in a statement today.

Nazri said the complainant and several other teachers looked for the suspect, who was still in the haunted house area, and asked about the incident, but the suspect denied it.

"The headmistress immediately contacted the victims' guardians and told them about it before filing a police report.

"A preliminary urine test on the suspect found that he tested positive for methamphetamine," he said.

He said investigations are being conducted under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act (AKSTK) 2017.
