KUANTAN: It has been over two months since Corporal Muhamad Shafiq Ahmad Said's tragic killing in an attack on the Ulu Tiram police station on May 17, but his mother Aini Mohd Sharif still "waits" to hear his voice again.
The 57-year-old said she still longs for his phone calls or conversations through video calls as it had been norm since he started working, especially when the month nears its end.
"Usually, he will deposit some money after receiving his salary and advise me to use the cash to buy food or use it for other expenses. In fact, until today I still wait for his calls.
"As time passes, my husband and I have accepted his death but his loss is deeply felt," she said when met with her husband Ahmad Said Md Piah, 65, after receiving aid from the Retired Senior Police Officers' Association (Respa) at the Pahang police headquarters here.
Shafiq, 24, along with his colleague Corporal Ahmad Azza Fahmi Azhar were killed by a masked intruder at the Ulu Tiram police station at 3am on May 17 while their collegue Sergeant Mohd Hasif Roslan, 38, sustained injuries.
The suspect was shot dead.
Shafiq was buried at the Batu 8 Muslim burial ground here on May 18.
Shafiq and Azza were constables then but were posthumously promoted to the rank of corporal, while Hasif, who had been critically wounded, had been promoted from corporal to sergeant.
Meanwhile, Respa president Datuk Meor Chek Hussein Mahayuddin said the RM34,000 collected by the association and members of the public will be distributed among the three families.
"Shafiq and Azza's families will receive RM13,000 each while Hasif will receive RM8,000," he said, adding that Respa was grateful to all the generous donors.
Also present were Pahang police chief Datuk Seri Yahaya Othman and state Respa chairman Che Arifin Mohd Ali.
