KUALA LUMPUR: Two family members of a man who attacked the Ulu Tiram police station in May this year, pleaded not guilty today to charges of supporting the Islamic State (IS) terror group.
They also pleaded not guilty to firearms possession charges.
Radin Imran Radin Mohd Yassin, the father of slain attacker Radin Luqman, made the plea after three charges were read to him before High Court Judge Datuk Azhar Abdul Hamid here today.
Radin Imran, 62, was accused of knowingly encouraging acts of terrorism by instilling Daesh ideology in his three other children, Radin Romyullah, Farhah Sobrina, Mariah, and his wife Rosna Jantan at a house on Jalan Rabani, Kampung Sungai Tiram, in Johor at the end of 214 until May 17, this year.
The charge falls under Section 130G(a) of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum of 30 years in prison and a fine, upon conviction.
For the second and third charges, Radin Imran is accused of supporting terror activities by storing four homemade air rifles for Daesh group activities and for pledging allegiance to the group's leader, Abu Bakar Al-Baghdadi.
The offences fall under Sections 130J(1)(b) and 130J(1)(a) of the Penal Code, which provide for life imprisonment or a maximum of 40 years, or a fine, with any property used or intended to be used for the crime subject to confiscation, upon conviction.
Meanwhile, Radin Imran's daughter Farhah Sobrina, 23, pleaded not guilty to charges of deliberately withholding information related to offences under Section 130J(1)(a) and Section 130G(a) of the Penal Code.
She was charged under Section 130M of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum sentence of seven years jail or a fine, or both, upon conviction.
Deputy public prosecutor Mohamad Mustaffa P Kunyalam prosecuted. Both accused were represented by lawyer Fatima Zulaikha Ahmad Bashri.
In June this year, five of Radin Luqman's family members faced slew of charges including encouraging terrorist acts and instilling IS ideology.
On May 17 at 2.54am, Radin Luqman, 21, armed with a parang, stormed the Ulu Tiram police station and fatally slashed Constable Ahmad Azza Fahmi Azhar, 22.
Radin Luqman also seized a Walther P99 semi-automatic pistol and a HK MP5 submachine gun, shooting Constable Muhamad Syafiq Ahmad Said, 24, killing him.
Another police officer, Mohd Hanif Roslan, was critically injured.
Radin Luqman was shot dead at the scene.
