SANDAKAN: The mystery of a man who had been missing since last Sunday was solved when his body was found, believed to have been murdered, in a bushy area near a plantation in Kampung Sungai Memanjang today.
The body of the victim, identified as Naufal Abdul Rashid, 35, was discovered by a team of police officers from here at around 11am.
District police chief, Superintendent Ramasamy Kuppan said that they received an initial report regarding the discovery of a burnt four-wheel-drive vehicle in the area.
Following that, he said, a team of police officers was dispatched to the scene for further inspection.
"Upon arriving at the location, a burnt four-wheel-drive vehicle was found, but there was no individual inside the vehicle.
"Police officers then conducted a search around the vehicle and found a man's body, suspected to be related to a missing person report filed last Sunday," he said when contacted today.
He added that the victim's body was subsequently sent to the Forensic Unit at the Duchess Of Kent Hospital (HDOK) Sandakan for a post-mortem.
"Investigations are ongoing, and the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder," he added.
Since this morning, news about the disappearance of a man, who is also the son of the Supreme restaurant owner, had been circulating on social media.
