SEREMBAN: A traffic cop was left seriously injured after a teenage biker rammed into him while riding against the flow of traffic at KM36 of the Kajang-Seremban Highway (Lekas) early this morning.
In the 2am incident, the traffic cop, who was part of the district police's Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department, was conducting the 'Op Samseng Jalanan' traffic operation with other cops.
Seremban police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohamad Hatta Che Din said both the policeman and youth sustained head and leg injuries.
He said the teenager was riding his bike against the flow of traffic and rammed into the policeman, who was also on a motorcycle.
"Both were take to the Tuanku Jaafar Hospital for treatment," he said in a statement.
Mohamad Hatta urged eyewitnesses or those with information on the incident to contact the investigating officer, Inspector Fadzilah, at 016-2895801, or the district police headquarters at 06-6033222.
The case is being probed under the Road Transport Act 1987 as well as the Child Act 2001 as it involved a minor.
"Parents should be more aware of their children's activities, especially at night, to ensure they don't become involved in unhealthy activities such as illegal racing," he said.
