Ex-Henry Gurney trainee pleads not guilty to culpable homicide

MELAKA: A former Henry Gurney School trainee pleaded not guilty to charges of causing the death of his fellow trainee four years ago at the Ayer Keroh Sessions Court here today.

The accused, Muhammad Daniel Akmal, 21, pleaded not guilty after the charges were read and explained to him by the court interpreter.

According to the charges, he was accused of causing the death of Che Ku Rizal Faqimi Che Ku Ridzuan (who was 19 at the time of the incident) with the intent to cause bodily harm that could likely result in death, thus committing culpable homicide not amounting to murder.

The offence was allegedly committed at Block Hang Tuah of Henry Gurney School in Telok Mas, Melaka, on Jan 28, 2020, between 4.50pm and 5.50pm.

The charge is under Section 304(a) of the Penal Code, which provides for imprisonment of up to 30 years and a fine.

Deputy public prosecutor Rashidah Baharom, who prosecuted the case, did not offer any bail and requested a new mention date for the submission of documents.

The accused was represented by lawyer K. Shareveen.

The court then set the case for mention on Sept 2 for document submission, with no bail offered.
