Cops arrest 12, seize contraband worth almost RM400k in smuggling crackdown

ISKANDAR PUTERI: Police have arrested 12 suspects and seized contraband liquor and cigarettes worth RM394,625.50 in a series of operations and raids against smugglers last month.

Police also confiscated several vehicles used in the smuggling activities during operations conducted with the Simpang Renggam 5th Battalion General Operations Force.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner M. Kumarasan said the suspects, aged between 23 and 68, were arrested under the Customs Act 1967 for possession of unpaid duties and controlled goods.

Kumarasan also mentioned that similar operations will be conducted this month as part of their ongoing fight against smugglers.

He urged anyone with information on criminal activities to report suspicious incidents via the state police hotline at 019-2792095 or their Operations Room at 07-2212999.
