Perak exco: Let cops complete probe into boarding school assault

IPOH: The Perak Education Department will not interfere in the ongoing probe into the alleged assault of a Form 1 student by a group of senior students in a boarding school in the state.

State Education, Higher Education, Youth and Sports Committee chairman Khairudin Abu Hanipah said the alleged assault was now a police case.

"Let the police investigate, we cannot interfere in a police case. Let them do their jobs," he told reporters after attending the Darul Ridzuan Literature Awards Ceremony here.

He was asked if the state education department had undertaken any effort to resolve the issue.

Khairudin said for now, they would wait for the police to complete their investigation.

"So far the police report (on the assault) has not been withdrawn, so we will wait for the police to complete their probe before deciding on the next course of action."

Earlier this week, police arrested five male students for allegedly assaulting their junior, a 13-year-old boy.

Perak police chief Datuk Azizi Mat Aris said the victim lodged a police report on the alleged assault.

Azizi said the victim sustained injuries and received outpatient treatment at Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital.
