KUALA LUMPUR: Women and girls from Eastern Europe, Mongolia and China are among the highest paid foreign sex workers, earning up to RM5,000 a night.
Foreigners as young as 10 and women under 40, especially from Uzbekistan, Mongolia and Russia, are among the favourites for VIPs, celebrities, foreign and local businessmen, Utusan Malaysia reported.
It said women who originate from these countries are favourites because they are considered to be beautiful, are tall or both.
The report said these exclusive sex services are normally rendered at high class hotels and luxury condominiums, to avoid any suspicion from authorities.
It quoted Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain as saying a total of 28,423 people were arrested for engaging in prostitution activities for a period of 18 months throughout 2023 until June this year.
He said, based on police investigations, most of these women from Eastern European countries charge their customers between RM3,000 and RM5,000 a night.
"As for sex workers from China, their services cost about RM2,000 to RM3,000 a night, and those from Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia, it is cheaper, between RM250 and RM800. Women from our neighbouring countries are very much in the highest demand by both foreigners and as well as locals because of the (cheaper) charges," he said.
Razarudin said police have been conducting regular raids to curb this menace.
"Last year, through 3,824 raids, a total of 15,199 individuals, including those soliciting services, the prostitutes and their pimp had been detained and this year, for the first six months itself, we have arrested 13,224 in a total of 1,980 raids carried out," he said.
Of the number of women picked up, 13,648 were foreigners while 1,295 were locals.
Razarudin said of the foreigners arrested, Thai women accounted for the most at 5,150, followed by Vietnamese women (3,721), Indonesians (1,723) and Chinese (936).
"Also arrested were women from Myanmar, Laos, Bangladesh, the Philippines, India, Uganda, Cambodia, Japan, Uzbekistan and several other countries," he was quoted saying.
While he acknowledged the widespread issue of prostitution in the country, he said police will continue to crack down on prostitution activities, including doubling up the number and frequency of prostitution raids.
"Police, through the federal Anti-Vice, Gaming and Secret Societies Division of the Criminal Investigation Department, will continue to increase operations and raids in big cities, namely in the Klang Valley, Johor, Penang, Negri Sembilan and Melaka," he said.
