KULAI: An unemployed man charged with the abduction of a 6-year-old girl in Iskandar Puteri was charged again at the magistrate's court here today.
This time around, Leang Win Son was charged with seven counts of possessing obscene materials which included pillows depicting naked young girls.
The 31-year-old accused pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to him by the court interpreter in Mandarin before Magistrate Azureen Sahira Sauffee Afandi.
According to the charge sheet, Leang was accused of committing the offences at his family home in Taman Sri Kulai here at 4pm on July 24.
He was charged under Section 292 of the Penal Code for the sale, distribution, or possession of obscene materials, which carries the maximum three-year imprisonment, a fine, or both upon conviction.
Deputy public prosecutor Nor Fadilah Joharuddin prosecuted while lawyers Nur Zafirah Norizan and Ungku Ahmad Hafis Ungku Fathil represented the accused.
Nor Fadilah offered bail of RM21,000 for all the charges.
Lawyers representing Leang appealed for leniency on the grounds that their client is unemployed and that he depended on his mother for financial support.
"Leang's mother is a single parent who works various jobs, including house cleaning, earning a monthly income of not more than RM3,000 monthly.
"He has also been issued a bail of RM50,000 for eight charges in the Sessions Court in Johor Baru earlier today," the lawyer said.
Azureen Sahira later set bail at RM10,000 with one surety for all seven charges. She also fixed Sept 10 as mention to allow submissions of documents.
Earlier today, Leang appeared in two separate Sessions Courts in Johor Baru where he pleaded guilty to eight charges, including child abduction, wrongful confinement, and sexual assault involving the same girl, and the possession as well as distribution of inappropriate materials
