SEPANG: Six suspects are set to be charged at the Sepang Court for the kidnapping of a Chinese national and a local woman.
District police chief Assistant Commissioner Wan Kamarul Azran Wan Yusof confirmed that the investigation papers had been referred to the deputy public prosecutor's office.
He said deputy public prosecutor Mohd Mukhzany Fariz Mohd Mokhtar had instructed that the six individuals face charges under Section 3(1) of the Kidnapping Act 1961 on Thursday (Aug 15).
"The remaining four suspects will be released on a bond under Section 49 of the Criminal Procedure Code," said Wan Kamarul Azran when contacted today.
Previously, four men alleged to be involved in the kidnapping were killed in a shootout with police in Johor.
Additionally, on July 11, police arrested four men and a woman in connection with the case during raids near the Cyberjaya exit of the MEX Expressway.
The victims were freed on July 15 after the sibling of the Chinese national paid a ransom of US$1.1 million (RM5.4 million) in bitcoins. They were released by the roadside along Jalan Pedas-Linggi, Negri Sembilan.
Following the ransom payment, four suspects involved in the kidnapping were identified and subsequently killed in a police shootout on Aug 1.
Among the suspects detained was the victim's chauffeur, and authorities are still searching for four additional suspects believed to be connected to the case.
Further investigations have led to the recovery of RM1.5 million in cash, six luxury watches, six handbags, and several vehicles.
Most suspects are believed to be debt collectors. The mastermind behind the kidnapping was among those killed in the recent shootout.
