High-profile murder cases often linked to known suspects, says CID director

KUALA LUMPUR: Many high-profile murder victims in the country knew their killers, said Federal Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain.

He said "random murders" rarely happened in the country.

"Most of the victims knew who their killers were.

"In this aspect, I am worried about the value we put in a person's life," he told TV3 during a special Buletin TV3 Edisi Khas podcast yesterday.

He drew several examples of murders that happened in the country, including that of Nur Farah Kartini, Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matiin, and Istiqomah Ahmad Rozi, better known as Cikgu Istiqomah.

"I was asked by a doctor about the act of mass murders in the United States.

"There have been scientific studies that these (murderers) are a generation exposed to gamification, who look at life as just a game, as if there is another chance to live," he said.

Meanwhile, Shuhaily said the act of certain people spreading images and information about an ongoing case on social media could hinder the police's investigation.

He said this happened during the case of 6-year-old Zayn Rayyan, an autistic child who was murdered.

He said the people should not jeapordise the legal process by spreading images or details of the case online.

"Details and images of the case were being spread on social media. My question is, what is the motive of people sharing them widely?" he questioned.
