KUALA LUMPUR: There was a brief moment of tension at the High Court when DAP's Lim Guan Eng accused the lawyer for blogger Wan Muhammad Azri Wan Deris or Papagomo of lying in court during a defamation trial.
The claim, made from the witness stand, drew a reaction from the lawyer, Logan Iskandar Abdullah who demanded Lim retract his accusation.
The DAP chairman made the accusation while being questioned by Logan over his remarks that Wan Azri alleged his then 15-year-old son was involved in a sexual harassment case.
"I was very angry when my son's issue was raised. You lied," Lim told Logan.
Logan objected to Lim's statement and demanded he retract his remarks.
Judge Eddie Yeo, who is presiding over Lim and his son Clint's defamation suit against Wan Azri, then called for recess.
When the trial resumed, Yeo advised all parties to maintain decorum in the court.
"The witness is reminded to answer the lawyer's questions and I ask YB (Lim) to retract his remarks that the defendant's lawyer is a liar,"
Lim and his son Clint, represented by lawyer Simon Murali, are seeking RM3 million in damages from Wan Azri over an allegedly defamatory statement regarding Clint's supposed detention by Singaporean authorities at Changi Airport.
Both Lim and Clint deny being in Singapore at the time and claim the statement damaged their reputations.
