Firemen take two hours to persuade hospital patient to safety

SANDAKAN: A 33-year-old man was rescued after firefighters and hospital staff persuaded him for two hours against jumping off a hospital building here today.

Sabah Fire and Rescue Department's Operations Centre said they received an emergency call about the incident at the Duchess of Kent Hospital (HDOK) at 2.56pm.

Upon arrival, the man was atempting to jump from the first floor of the HDOK building.

"The rescue team then persuaded the man (to come down) and managed to apprehend him," the spokesperson said in a media statement.

The victim sustained minor injuries to his left shoulder and received initial treatment from the Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) team.

"The victim was then handed over to the police for further action."

The rescue operation was also assisted by the police, Health Ministry, Malaysia Volunteer Corps Department, and National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK).
