Group attacks car washer and security guard, 1 dead, 1 critically injured

SUNGAI PETANI: A car washer was killed while a security guard was critically injured after they were attacked by a group of men in separate incidents around Bedong last night.

Kuala Muda police chief Assistant Commissioner Wan Azharuddin Wan Ismail, said both victims were brought to Hospital Sultan Abdul Halim around 2.20am.

The hospital reported the matter to the police.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the first attack took place at an empty lot near Kampung Toh Pawang.

The security guard, who was working with another person at the time, was the first to be attacked.

He was attacked by a group of five men armed with parangs.

"The victim suffered severe injuries to his chest and hands. His colleague managed to escape.

"The suspects then headed to a car wash in Taman Bedong, some 2.7km away and attacked the car washer," he said in a statement.

Wan Azharuddin said both victims, in their 20s, were rushed to hospital by their friends.

The car washer was pronounced dead on arrival.

So far, three men in their 20s and 30s have been arrested to assist in investigations. Police are still identifying the motive for the attacks.

The case is being probed under Sections 302 and 326 of the Penal Code for murder and voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means.
