8-year-old girl dies after being abused with a belt, clothes hanger

KUALA LUMPUR: A husband and wife pair have been arrested in connection with the death of an eight-year old girl in Bandar Tasik Puteri, Rawang.

Gombak police chief Assistant Commissioner Noor Ariffin Mohamad Nasir said police received a report on the incident at 3.27pm yesterday.

"The victim was confirmed dead at her home by a medical officer assistant from Sungai Buloh Hospital.

"An initial examination of the victim's body revealed injuries to her face, lips, thighs, chin, and knees. The body has been sent to Sungai Buloh Hospital for an autopsy," said Noor Ariffin in a statement.

"Besides using hands and feet, the victim is also believed to have been injured with a belt, a clothes hanger, and a blunt object." he added.

The male suspect, a 29-year-old local security guard, and the female suspect, a 28-year-old local ice cream maker, were arrested at 9 pm yesterday at Sandalwood Court Apartments, Bandar Tasik Puteri. The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

Both suspects are currently held in remand for seven days, until Aug 24.

Police are appealing to the public for any witnesses or information related to the case.
