Two school headmasters among three detained by Sarawak MACC in RM500,000 false claim case

KUCHING : The Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission obtained remand orders against three men, including two headmasters of primary schools in Sarawak for allegedly making false claims valued at about RM500,000.

Magistrate Ong Kork Chern allowed a five-day remand order for two of the suspects in their 50s and 60s until Aug 25 after the MACC made an application at the Sibu courts today.

The MACC also obtained a four-day remand order on the third suspect in his 50s, until Aug 24.

A source said the trio were detained about 10pm yesterday while giving their statements at the Sibu MACC office.

"Initial investigations showed that they allegedly committed the act around 2022.

"The suspects are believed to have made false claims to the District Education Department for maintenance works for a tube well system in four schools in the state even though the maintenance works were never done and the tube well sytem has been broken since 2021."

Meanwhile, when contacted, Sarawak MACC director Habilah Mohamad Salleh confirmed the trio's arrest.

"The case is investigated under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009."
