KOTA BARU: The General Operations Force (GOF) is investigating one of its personnel who was injured in an attack in the Thai border town of Sungai Golok on Aug 17.
Sources said the GOF member, who is based in Tumpat, was believed to have used one of the illegal jetties along the Malaysia-Thai border to cross into Sungai Golok for a night out.
The victim was at a hotel in the border town when he was attacked by a man at 4am, and was injured on the head.
The GOF member was sent to a hospital in Sungai Golok for initial treatment, and then transferred to Tumpat Hospital before being warded at Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital here.
GOF Southeast Brigade commander Datuk Nik Ros Azhan Nik Ab Hamid confirmed the case today.
He said the GOF was investigating the matter and the member would be disciplined.
"His head of department will investigate this case and will take stern action against him," he added.
A Sungai Golok police spokesman said the victim had not lodged a report on the incident.
"The Thai police cannot investigate the case as there no report has been lodged," said the spokesman.
