Na'imah gets passport back temporarily to go to China

KUALA LUMPUR: Tun Daim Zainuddin's wife, Toh Puan Na'imah Abdul Khalid, has been granted temporary release of her passport to travel to China for work.

Sessions Court judge Azura Alwi allowed Na'imah's application to obtain her passport to travel from Aug 28 to Sept 9.

Deputy public prosecutor Mohamad Fadly Mohd Zamry did not object to Na'imah's application.

However, he asked for Na'imah's passport to be returned to the court within 48-hours of her arrival back in Malaysia.

Azura ruled that the passport must be returned to the court within 48-hours from Sept 9.

Earlier, lawyer Nizamuddin Hamid said Na'imah's application was made in a working capacity and that they have filed the necessary document.

Mohamad Fadly was assisted by deputy public prosecutor Ahmad Feisal Mohd Azmi.

Previously, Na'imah was also granted her passport temporarily to travel abroad, including to attend an art exhibition in Venice and to meet her lawyer in London, in July.

She had also travelled to Switzerland for the Basel Art Exhibition in June.

On March 22, High Court judge Datuk Ahmad Bache dismissed Na'imah's application to permanently regain her passport.

Na'imah surrendered her passport at the Sessions Court as part of her bail condition when she was charged with failing to declare her assets to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

According to the charge sheet, Na'imah failed to comply with an MACC notice to declare her assets which include companies, luxury vehicles and properties.

Among the assets are the Menara Ilham, a residence in Bukit Tunku, four freehold plots of land and buildings near Bukit Tunku, a Mercedes Benz EQC400 and a Mercedes Benz 500SL.

The offence falls under Section 36(2) of the MACC Act which carries a maximum five years' imprisonment and RM100,000 fine upon conviction.

She was released on RM250,000 bail with one surety.
