Man dies after car rams into motorcycle at traffic light

KUALA LUMPUR: A motorcyclist died after his motorcycle was struck by a car at a traffic light intersection on Jalan Persiaran Putra Perdana, Subang Jaya.

Subang Jaya district police chief, Assistant Commissioner Wan Azlan Wan Mamat, said that the incident occurred on Saturday (Nov 16) when a Perodua Axia rear-ended the motorcycle, which had stopped at the red light of the intersection.

"Preliminary investigations revealed that the accident happened when the motorcycle, ridden by a 37-year-old man, had stopped at a red light intending to turn right. It was then rear-ended by a car driven by a 27-year-old man. The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics, while the car driver was unharmed," he said.

Wan Azlan added that the driver was detained for a day and later released on bail.

He confirmed that the driver tested negative for alcohol intoxication, and a urine screening for drugs also returned negative.

He also said that further investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the accident, which is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death due to reckless or dangerous driving.

Wan Azlan has appealed to the public for any information regarding the incident to assist the investigation.

He urged anyone with relevant details to contact the investigating officer, Inspector Fatin Husna Khairuzzaman, from the Subang Jaya district police headquarters Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department, at 017-3012621.
