Batu Pahat man remanded over rape, sexual assault of daughters

BATU PAHAT: A tile installer has been remanded for seven days in connection with the rape and sexual assault of his daughters, aged 14 and 11.

Magistrate Suhaila Shafi'uddin issued the remand order for the 45-year-old suspect today.

The suspect is believed to have been raping his 14-year-old daughter at their home here since January.

About 2.30pm yesterday, the suspect's 11-year-old daughter allegedly witnessed her father raping her older sister through a window after returning from school.

The 14-year-old girl realised her younger sister had returned home and called for help.

It is understood that the victim's mother was working at a tailoring shop at the time of the incident.

The victim later recounted the incident to her mother after she returned home in the afternoon.

The woman then took her daughter to Sultanah Nora Ismail Hospital. An examination at the hospital revealed that the teenager had been raped.

They lodged a report at the Batu Pahat district police headquarters at 10pm the same day.

Acting on the report, police arrested the suspect in a residential area near the scene of the incident about 12.30am today.

The 11-year-old girl claimed she was also sexually assaulted by her father.

For the alleged rape, the case is being investigated under Section 376 of the Penal Code, which provides for up to 20 years' jail and whipping if convicted.

For the alleged sexual assault, the investigation is being investigated under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, which provides up to 20 years' jail and whipping if convicted.
