KUALA LUMPUR: A jobless man pleaded guilty at the High Court here today to the murder of his elderly parents, whose bodies were found with multiple stab wounds in their house in Sungai Penchala last year.
Afendi Muhammad Agus@Muhamed Ali, 43, clad in an orange prison outfit, made his plea after two separate murder charges were read to him again before judge K. Muniandy.
Afendi was initially charged at the magistrate's court last year but no plea was taken as were under the jurisdiction of the high court.
Muniandy then asked Afendi's lawyer Mohd Ruzaini Zulkifli to ascertain once again if his client wished to maintain his guilty plea.
Ruzaini told the court that he had just been appointed this week to represent his client.
"I have not met my client. This is my first time meeting him and I need time to discuss with him about his guilty plea. I also need to study documents related to the case," he said.
Deputy public prosecutor Nur Aqilah Ishak asked the court to set a date for document submission.
The court then recorded Afendi's plea and that he understood the consequences and punishments provided under the murder charge. The court set Oct 10 for case management.
On both charges, Afendi was accused of murdering his father, Muhammad Agus@Muhamed Ali Omar, 82, and his mother Darlisma Njatu Saleh, 72.
The offence was committed between 7.10pm and 7.20pm at their home in Kampung Sungai Penchala, Jalan Penchala Hilir, in Brickfields district on Dec 9 last year.
Afendi faces the death penalty or a jail term of up to 40 years and no fewer than 12 strokes of the rotan upon conviction.
He was arrested at the Sprint Highway Penchala Tunnel at 10.30pm on the day of the killings.
Police had received reports of a fight and found the couple dead in their house.
The accused had a history of nine drug cases and was reportedly out on bail at the time of the incident.
