KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Najib Razak was admitted to Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL) yesterday due to acute knee pain, the High Court heard today.
Thus, the incarcerated former prime minister's corruption charges for misappropriating billions of 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) funds were vacated for two days starting today.
HKL Orthopedic and Traumatology Department senior consultant, Dr Siti Hawa Tahir, informed the court of this during the hearing of the case before Judge Datuk Collin Lawrence Sequerah.
"Najib was given two days of medical certificate (MC) and current treatment provided to him is a strong analgesic for his pain.
"As of now, he is on opioids, and we want him to be able to walk comfortably with no other complications.
"He has complained of drowsiness since we started prescribing him the medication last night, and possibly other symptoms as well, but I have not seen him this morning," she said while taking the witness stand.
Najib, 71, is facing four charges of using his position to obtain bribes totalling RM2.3 billion from 1MDB funds and 21 charges of money laundering involving the same amount.
For the 21 charges of money laundering, the former Pekan member of parliament is accused of committing the offences between March 22, 2013, and Aug 30, 2013.
