JOHOR BARU: Police arrested two men on suspicion of being involved in a series of chemical odour pollution cases in the district, yesterday night.
Johor Baru (south) police chief Assistant Commissioner Raub Selamat said the duo, aged 23 and 28 were arrested at 11pm at an apartment complex here.
The men who tested negative for drugs had no prior criminal records and were remanded for seven days until Sep 16 to facilitate investigations under Section 430 of the Penal Code, for knowingly causing damage to public water supplies or air quality.
They may face up to a 30-year imprisonment term if convicted and a fine.
Over the past week, several areas in Johor Baru experienced chemical contamination.
Yesterday, Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi called for action against those responsible for the pollution.
