KUALA LUMPUR: Sixteen foreigners were detained in a raid on an illegal entertainment outlet in Puchong, following an operation by the Immigration Department yesterday.
Director-general Datuk Ruslin Jusoh said the operation targeted a venue suspected of operating illegally and known for attracting foreign nationals while disturbing public order.
"During the raid, 13 Nigerian men, one Ugandan woman, and two Thai women, aged between 25 and 47, were arrested for failing to produce valid documentation," he said.
The centre, which operated from 7pm to 2am, provided entertainment and alcohol, and patrons frequently brought foreign women to serve as hostesses.
"This enforcement action was prompted by public complaints regarding foreign nationals hosting parties that disrupted the peace of the surrounding community," Ruslin said.
He said Immigration officers from the enforcement and integrity divisions conducted the midnight raid following two weeks of intelligence gathering.
Several people on the premises attempted to resist or evade arrest but were quickly subdued by authorities.
Those arrested are being held at the Bukit Jalil Immigration Detention Depot for offences under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.
Ruslin said the department would continue to take firm action against violators of the Immigration Act, Passports Act 1966, Immigration Regulations 1963, and the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007 (Atipsom).
