JOHOR BARU: Some 64 foreigners found working illegally in Johor were detained in a series of immigration operations in Batu Pahat, Mersing and the state capital here yesterday.
Johor Immigration Department director Datuk Mohd Rusdi Mohd Darus said the three-day operations across the districts also saw a 67-year-old Pakistani, who was operating an offshore company with illegal migrants, detained.
"We detained 66 people in a series of raids between Monday and Wednesday, which included the documented Pakistani and his local business partner."
]The raiding party stormed into 18 premises, including four hotspots, that operated factories, construction sites, eateries and hair salons, and inspected 86 individuals.
In Batu Pahat, the enforcement officers raided seven premises, including restaurants, and in Mersing, they inspected a workers' quarters at a construction site.
Rusdi said a separate joint-operation involving the police and the Pasir Gudang City Council was carried out on Monday.
The detainees, including women, did not possess work permits and passports. They were found to have misused their social visit passes and staying in the country illegally.
The Pakistani and his local business partner violated Immigration rules by harbouring illegals.
