PONTIAN: A shop assistant lost over RM100,000 of his savings after he fell victim to an investment scam recently.
District police chief Superintendent Mohammad Shofee Tayib said the 27-year-old man came across a Facebook page of the company which offers lucrative returns for people who joined the online investment scheme on Sept 1.
The victim was promised high returns of up to RM400,000 within 30 minutes with an initial investment of RM500.
"The victim, who believed the suspect's words, proceeded to make a series of payments amounting to a total of RM109,735.99 into the suspect's provided account," Shofee said in a statement today.
Mohammad Shofee said the victim only realised he had been deceived when the capital used for the investment as well as the promised commission were not returned.
He added that the case is being investigated under Section 402 of the Penal Code for cheating.
