BALIK PULAU: Three individuals, including a 16-year-old teenager, were charged at the magistrate's court here today for allegedly collecting and registering bank accounts for mule account activities using mobile phones last week.
The accused, Ling Kie Teck and Kelvin Hung Tuan Wan, both 19, along with the 16-year-old girl, pleaded not guilty after the charges were read to them in front of magistrate Chia Huey Ting.
According to the charges, all three were accused of conspiring to commit an illegal act by collecting and registering bank accounts for account mules using seven different mobile phones.
They were charged with the offence at a café on Lorong Bukit Kecil, Taman Sri Nibong, Bayan Lepas, at 7.30pm on Sept 12.
The charges were filed under Section 120B(2) of the Penal Code (Act 574), which carries a punishment of up to six months' imprisonment, a fine, or both upon conviction.
Deputy public prosecutor R. Lushani proposed bail of RM9,000 with one surety for each accused. However, lawyer S. Sagthiyaraj, representing the three teenagers, requested a lower bail amount, citing that they were young offenders and had come from Sarawak and Johor.
The court subsequently allowed each accused to be released on RM3,000 bail with one surety, along with the additional condition that they report to the nearest police station.
The case is scheduled for mention on Nov 19.
