KUALA LUMPUR: A 16-year-old school dropout was among three people arrested to assist in police investigation into the assault on a company supervisor, who was found unconscious at a workers' hostel in Taman Ampang Utama recently.
Ampang Jaya district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Azam Ismail said the police received a report lodged by the victim's employer, who is the director of the company, on the incident at 11.16pm last Saturday.
In the report, the company director said the victim, 28, sustained injuries to his head and hands and was rushed to the Ampang Jaya Hospital for treatment.
Acting on the report, police arrested the first suspect, 21, in Bandar Bukit Puchong the following day.
The arrest led the police to apprehend the second suspect, 24, and the third suspect, 16, in Taman Putra Perdana in Puchong the same day.
"The motive behind the attack was that the first suspect was not happy with the victim, who always reprimanded him for disciplinary issues," he said in a statement.
The tension escalated after the victim reported the disappearance of a cabinet in the first suspect's hostel to the company's management.
He added that preliminary investigations showed all three suspects have records of committing drug-related offences.
"The first and second suspects have past records of committing three and 10 drug-related offences respectively. The third suspect, who works at a restaurant, has two records of drug-related offences," the statement said.
He added that urine tests conducted on all three suspects came back positive for drugs.
"The first and second suspects were remanded for seven days while the third suspect was remanded for a day to facilitate investigation into the case," he said.
The case, he said, is being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code for causing hurt using a weapon.
"The victim is still being treated at the hospital's Intensive Care Unit," he said.
