PUTRAJAYA: Workplace rotation for Immigration Department staff will be implemented immediately, particularly for those who have served in one location for more than three years, said Deputy Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah.
This rotation is one of six reform measures introduced by the department to combat syndicates using the 'counter setting' modus operandi to bring in foreigners.
In a post on his official Facebook page, Dr Shamsul said officers identified for transfer will be relocated in stages to ensure that daily operations at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) remain unaffected.
The Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for entrance security control, security stamp management, and visitor inspection will also be reviewed and improved to prevent officers from exploiting the system.
Additionally, increased supervision, spot checks by integrity officers, and improved monitoring systems to detect irregularities in daily transactions will be enforced. Closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras will be installed at strategic locations for further oversight.
Strategic cooperation will also be enhanced with enforcement agencies like the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM), Royal Malaysian Customs Department (JKDM), and others.
On September 18, MACC identified 11 key weaknesses within the Immigration Department, particularly at KLIA Terminals 1 and 2, which syndicates exploited to bring in foreigners. These included insufficient internal controls and unsystematic staff rotations.—BERNAMA
