KUALA LUMPUR: Senior citizens were among those who took advantage of the 60 per cent discount on traffic summonses offered at the Madani government's second-anniversary programme at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre today (Nov 22).
Despite the large crowd, the elderly were able to enjoy faster processing times, thanks to special lanes set up for them.
Zaidi Mohd, 62, from Ampang, arrived at 9am and was able to clear his daughter's summonses for illegal parking by 10.45am. He said he paid a total of RM260 after the discount.
"My child's workplace has limited parking space, which led to the summonses being issued. The queue moved quickly and the service was efficient.
"I thought I would still be here after Friday prayers, but Alhamdulillah, everything went smoothly," Zaidi said when met at the KLCC.
Rajah Chinniah, 67, a retired teacher, had two outstanding summonses, and with the discount, his fines were reduced to only RM100.
He praised the fast and convenient service, as he said there were various payment options available to pay the fines.
"As a senior citizen, I was able to use the special lane, and within an hour, everything was settled. I came from Kajang, and taking the MRT (to KLCC) was very affordable, just RM2.80 for the trip.
"The entire process (to settle the summonses) was smooth, and I hope they continue to hold such events over the next few years," he said.
Norhayati Razali, 38, an administrative employee at a private company, shared her positive experience of paying multiple summonses on behalf of her company and a friend.
She paid a total of RM1,000, reducing the fines from RM1,800 to RM720 for her company, from RM400 to RM160 for herself, and from RM300 to RM120 for her friend.
"It was efficiently organised. One person can pay for multiple people, which saves a lot of time and effort.
"Sometimes, you don't even realise you have outstanding summonses. For example, when my friend checked the MyBayar PDRM app, she discovered she had seven outstanding traffic summonses," she said.
