KUALA LUMPUR: Police have arrested a foreign man in connection with the sexual assault of a nine-year-old girl and attempted abduction in Seri Kembangan, Selangor.
The incident occurred around 11pm yesterday (Sept 20) when the girl was playing with her friends near the complainant's workplace.
Serdang police chief Assistant Commissioner A.A. Anbalagan said a 35-year-old foreigner was detained for further investigation.
"Results of further investigation found the suspect possessing obscene material and no valid travel documents.
"The suspect's urine screening test result came back negative," he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 14 (a) of the Sexual Offences against Children Act 2017, the Penal Code for abduction and possessing obscene materials, and the Immigration Act 1959/63. The suspect is being remanded for seven days until Friday, Sept 27.
The police urged the public to share information regarding criminal conduct by contacting nearby police stations.
