KUALA LUMPUR: A 17-year-old teenager and 31 other suspected mat rempits were taken to attend a tazkirah session and perform congregation Subuh prayers after being arrested during Op Samseng Jalanan early this morning.
Kuala Lumpur Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department chief Assistant Commissioner Zamzuri Mohd Isa said a total of 157 summonses were issued for various traffic offences, including riding motorcycles without licence and illegal motorcycle modifications during the operation.
He added that all suspects arrested during the operation were taken to the Jalan Tun H.S. Lee police station for the documentation process.
"After the documentation process concluded, they were taken to participate in motivational talks, tazkirah, and to perform congregational Subuh prayers at An Nazahah surau.
"This religious programme aims to raise awareness among the mat rempit who were arrested around Jalan Tun Razak earlier today," he said in a statement.
Zamzuri said the religious and educational approach is hoped to help these young individuals to change and demonstrate good morals to society.
"Parents are also encouraged to be more attentive in educating their children and to be friends with them, sharing experiences and addressing the problems they face.
"This, in turn, can help reduce their focus on activities that violate criminal or traffic laws," he said.
