Najib to take stand in SRC International civil suit

KUALA LUMPUR: Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak is expected to take the witness stand today to testify in a US$1.18 billion civil suit filed by SRC International Bhd against him and its former chief executive, Nik Faisal Ariff Kamil.

A Prison Department motorcade believed to be carrying the former Pekan member of parliament was seen entering the court premises at Jalan Duta at 8.55am.

Najib was the sole shareholder of SRC International and advisor emeritus of the company at the material time.

The 70-year-old politician has been imprisoned since Aug 23, 2022, after being convicted of misappropriating RM42 million of the company's funds.

SRC, under its new management, filed the suit in May 2021, claiming that Najib committed a breach of trust and power abuse, personally benefitted from the company's funds and misappropriated the said funds.

It is also seeking a court declaration that Najib is responsible for the company's losses due to his breach of duties and trust and for Najib to pay back the RM42 million in losses that it has suffered.
