GEORGE TOWN: Police seized an assortment of drugs worth nearly RM600,000 during a raid on a house, which was turned into an MDMA-laced juice storage facility, in Jelutong here.
Police uncovered the storage facility when they arrested a 26-year-old man, believed to be involved in the distribution of juice laced with MDMA and other drugs, at a parking lot in Jelutong between 4.25pm yesterday and 3.30am today.
State police chief Datuk Hamzah Ahmad said checks on the man led to the seizure of 11 plastic packets of various colours, believed to contain MDMA-laced juice, weighing 259g worth RM3,300.
He said police also seized another transparent plastic packet, believed to contain ketamine, weighing 12g worth RM2,400.
"In a follow-up action at about 4.50pm, police went to a house in Jelutong which was used as a MDMA-laced juice storage store.
"There, police seized an assortment of drugs worth RM584,400," he said in a statement made available at the PDRM Pulau Pinang Facebook page.
Among the drugs seized were 1,134 plastic packets of various colours and 10 covered bottles, believed to contain MDMA, weighing 37,695g worth RM560,040, and three transparent plastic packets, believed to contain ketamine, weighing 76.80g worth RM15,360.
Other drugs seized during the raid included 128 colourful pills, believed to be ecstasy, weighing 47.45g worth RM6,400, 10 pills, believed to be Erimin 5, weighing 11g worth RM800 and six plastic containing liquid, believed to be drugs, weighing 47.70g worth RM1,800.
Hamzah said checks showed the syndicate was relatively new, having only started in March this year.
"The total amount of drugs seized could be used by some
9,500 addicts or 9,500 times.
"Urine test conducted on the suspect came back positive for benzo/ketamine drugs," he said, adding that the suspect had previous records for criminal and drug related offences.
"The suspect has been remanded for one week until Sept 30 to assist in investigation," he added.
Hamzah said police also seized a Proton X50 worth RM90,000.00.
"The total amount of seizure, including the drugs, amounted to RM680,100.00," he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952 for drug trafficking.
