RAWANG: A man believed to be linked to a string of shop lot break-ins at Damansara was shot dead by police in Kundang here early today (Sept 25).
Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said a task force from the Petaling Jaya police was conducting intelligence to trace the suspect when they came across him driving a Nissan Grand Livina along Jalan KBK 4 here at around 1.15am.
"The suspect refused to stop the vehicle and sped up in reverse, crashing into an unmarked police car and a car belonging to a civilian at the scene.
"Police fired several shots at the vehicle in self defence causing it to crash," he said in a statement today.
He said the suspect was shot in the incident and died at the scene.
"Based on our checks the suspect is a local in his 30s and has 26 prior records comprising 17 for criminal activities and nine for drug offences .
"Further checks revealed 10 of those records involved house and shop break-ins," he said, adding the suspect had also been previously detained under Section 15(d) of the Prevention of Crime Act.
He said they found various tools believed to be used in break-ins in the suspect's vehicle.
"We found an axe, three machetes, two cutters, a crowbar, as well as a paint scrapper.
"We have opened investigations under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder," he said.
Hussein added that police were now tracing the whereabouts of remnant members who were working with the suspect.
