Two smugglers caught red-handed filling up 4,000 litres of diesel into lorry

TUMPAT: Two suspected smugglers were caught red-handed filling up a lorry with 4,000 litres of subsidised diesel worth more than RM200,000 here yesterday (Sept 25).

The two were transferring the fuel from one lorry into another lorry when they were caught in the act by members of the General Operations Force (GOF) at Simpang Tiga Kampung Geting.

GOF Southeast Brigade Commander Datuk Nik Ros Azhan Nik Ab Hamid said the two were arrested in a raid at a shoplot in the village.

"A GOF member from the Ninth Battalion raided the place about 4pm following public tip-offs.

"After raiding the shoplot, they saw two men in the middle of pumping about 4,000 litres of diesel from a lorry into another lorry.

"It is believed that the diesel was to be smuggled to the neighbouring country," he said in a statement.

He added the two, both from Tumpat, aged 30 and 47, as well as the goods seized have been handed over to Tumpat police.

"We suspect the two were hired by certain individuals to send the fuel to the border," he added.
