No cause for alarm on deviant groups in Perak, say police

IPOH: Perak police have assured the public of their safety after detecting deviant groups in the state.

Perak police chief Datuk Azizi Mat Aris said that everything was under control and there was no need for the public to worry.

"Perak remains in a peaceful state and the public should not be concerned as the police are handling everything.

"Therefore, there is no cause for alarm. If there are any threats to national peace and security, we will take the necessary action," he said.

Azizi told reporters this after attending a Road Safety Awareness Advocacy Programme at SMK Dato' Haji Mohd Taib in Chemor today.

According to FMT, the state government is actively monitoring several groups suspected of practising deviant teachings, said Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad.

Saarani confirmed the existence of such groups in the state and stated that the Perak Islamic Religious Department (JAIPk) was keeping a watch on them before deciding on further action.

Saarani said JAIPk's research division had interviewed some practitioners of these deviant teachings. Once confirmed, a report will be submitted to the higher authorities.

When asked if more arrests had been made in connection with Global Ikhwan Services and Business Holdings (GISB), Azizi said no.

"So far, no additional arrests have been made in Perak. Any official statement will be issued by Bukit Aman police," he said.
