KUALA LUMPUR: The chief executive officer of Global Ikhwan Services and Business Holdings Sdn Bhd (GISB) will be remanded until Oct 10.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said he was among several high-value targets arrested under Op Global, who had their remand orders extended.
"Meanwhile the wife of another senior leader of the company will be remanded until Oct 5," he said when contacted today.
It was reported on Thursday that the 24 people, including the GISB CEO and other top management members, would be remanded further to facilitate investigations under the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007.
The 24 individuals were re-arrested after their remand ended on Sept 30, and a five-day remand was granted to facilitate investigations into alleged forced-labour offences.
To date, 93 suspected GISB members had been arrested and 34 others were held under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act (Sosma).
It was reported on Sept 25 that police had received 10 reports of forced-labour allegations involving GISB members.
The victims, aged between 14 and their early 20s, came forward following a public appeal by the authorities. The incidents allegedly occurred in several locations including Miri, Rawang and Alor Star, from 2013 to this year.
GISB had been under scrutiny following police raids on 20 welfare homes allegedly operated by the organisation on Sept 11, which led to the rescue of 402 people, mostly children.
Subsequent screenings revealed that many of the children had suffered physical and emotional abuse, with 13 reportedly being sexually assaulted.
GISB had denied all allegations of child exploitation and abuse.
